Borough of Fanwood, New Jersey

The Borough of Fanwood in Union County covers less than two square miles, and combines limited business and industry with a pleasing mix of housing that includes some restored historic homes. The borough population is more than 7,000. Fanwood has a thriving downtown district and has enjoyed a rebirth with the construction of several multi-use buildings, new apartments, and parking. Fanwood was incorporated as a borough in 1895, from portions of Fanwood Township, now known as Scotch Plains. The borough is bordered by Plainfield in the southwest and by Scotch Plains on all other sides.
Fanwood offers many programs and activities for both children and seniors. From arts and crafts, games, exercise programs, science, and technology, there are fun recreational activities for everyone.
Many town residents commute to New York City via New Jersey Transit’s Raritan Valley Line and via bus services to central and northern New Jersey and New York City.

Scotch Plains is primarily residential, offering a tranquil, small-town lifestyle. This Union County township has a long-established southern quadrant of well-kept older homes and a more contemporary northern section.
