6 Great Playgrounds in Westfield

Mindowaskin Playground Play Structure

Play Structure at Mindowaskin Park

Kids of all ages and abilities can slide, swing, climb, and run around at Westfield’s many playgrounds. (For those less active or needing a rest, there are park benches conveniently located near play structures.) After playtime, families can enjoy a picnic on the grassy areas or at picnic tables, which can be found in most parks.

Visitors should use caution when wandering outside of the designated play areas as there may be poison ivy or other dangerous plants or debris.

Westfield Recreation manages nine parks and fields, six of which have playgrounds.

Part of the Memorial Pool Complex, this playground is accessible to all children and features several adaptive swings, a picnic table, and benches. Also at this park is the town pool (membership required), basketball courts, tennis courts, and soccer and baseball fields. There’s a huge parking lot that’s mostly empty during the off-season, but might be filled on sunny or hot summer days.

Mindowaskin Park (see photos below)

North Euclid Avenue, Westfield, NJ

Located right in the center of town, this idyllic spot is perfect for a scenic park visit followed by a trip to the playground. While the playground area does not have tables, it does have lots of benches and grassy areas that are perfect for picnics, and there’s a creek behind the playground that kids will love exploring. With lots of shade, this playground is a great pick for hot summer days. There’s plenty of parking available in the adjacent parking lot.

This small play area is best suited for visits with young children, or to keep kids of any age busy while a brother or sister has a soccer game on the adjoining field. There’s a parking lot as well as parking on the street.

Tamaques Park

1101 Lamberts Mill Road, Westfield, NJ

At 106 acres, this is Westfield’s largest park and it has two separate playgrounds, one for younger kids and one for older children. The park also has tons of other attractions: 18 picnic areas, two basketball courts, eight tennis courts, shuffleboard courts, and numerous sports fields. There’s also a jogging/fitness path, ice skating (on the pond, if frozen and safe). Best of all—public restrooms (the number one amenity for many parents who are out with small children). You’ll also find plenty of parking in lots throughout the park.

Windsor Park

238 Windsor Avenue, Westfield, NJ

This neighborhood playground has a climbing apparatus, slide, infant and regular swings, and basketball courts. Benches and tables are available, which makes it a perfect spot to combine lunch and playtime.

There are many more playgrounds to explore in neighboring communities. To find new playgrounds to visit, search through the NJ Playgrounds website, which has information and reviews for hundreds of New Jersey playgrounds (both indoors and out).

The Westfield elementary schools also boast full-scale playgrounds. It’s hard to escape the fun factor in Westfield!
